Rail projects

Figures below refer to 3 May 2026 unless stated otherwise.

The claim

The Kano–Maradi rail corridor is well advanced, though the official completion date is contested between sources.

Figures

Kano–Maradi, including Kaduna–Kano and Kano–Daura–Katsina, reported at 70–75% complete overall, with the Kaduna–Zaria–Kano section at 80–85%. Over 500,000 of roughly 800,000 project components produced; all rail track procured; test runs completed on the Kano–Maradi section. Over 4,500 jobs, including around 200 expatriates. Cited challenges: vandalism, urban land access, and illegal laterite mining on the Kano–Dutse corridor. The Port Harcourt–Aba line, a $3.02bn project, was handed to the NRC in November 2024.

The counter-argument

Official sources give BOTH December 2026 and December 2027 as the commissioning target for Kaduna–Kano–Maradi. Do not state a completion date as settled.
